Greg Norman
Birth and Nationality
Greg Norman, one of the most popular golfers in the 80’s up to the 90’s, was born on February 10, 1955 in Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia. His mother, Toini Norman, had a Finnish blood and was a full time homemaker, but an accomplished golfer. His father Mervyn Norman worked as an electrical engineer.
Education and Early Life
In 1964, Greg Normal was enrolled at Townsville Grammar School located at Townsville in Queensland. He eventually transferred to Aspley State High School found in Brisbane’s north area.
The young Greg showed interest in the sport at an early age, and rugby, cricket, swimming, and water surf was among his favorites. Serving as a caddy to her golfer mother, it was easy for Greg to develop a love for golf. So when he reached 15, he honed his skill in golf, and even if he was left-handed, he swiftly played golf right-handed.
Greg was 20 when he became a professional assistant to Billy McWilliam, a popular Australian golfer. Greg started working as a trainee at Royal Queensland Golf Club pro shop for AUS38 a week at the beginning of his career and worked under Charlie Earp there.

Greg became a tournament golf player in 1976, the same year when he also won his first victory at the West Lakes Classic. In 1977, he joined European tournament and won. In 1980, he won in the French Open and Scandinavian Enterprise Open in Sweden. Same year, he also won the Suntory World Match Play Championship and won his first Australian Open.
