South Australia is a state in the south central portion of Australia. This Australian state has stunning beaches, long summers, superb wine, festivals and events. Adelaide which is widely recognized as Australia's most liveable city is the capital city of South Australia. Similar to every other individual Australian State, South Australia too determines its public holidays by itself.

Volunteers Day is celebrated in South Australia, on the same day as Queen's Birthday. This public holiday occurs every year on the second Monday of June. In South Australia, Volunteers Day shall be celebrated on the 10th of June 2013. This day is celebrated to honour the affirmative impact that Volunteers have on our lives. All forms of volunteering, from helping in emergencies to guarding beaches to conveying food to the aged is celebrated.

Adelaide Cup is envisaged as a state holiday in South Australia. It occurs on the second Monday of March. This is actually a horse racing event that has been the spirit of South Australia’s sporting and public life ever since it was first held in 1864.

26 December is celebrated in South Australia as the Proclamation day. In other parts of the Australia this day is observed as Boxing Day. In case Proclamation Day occurs on a weekend; a day in the following week is observed as a public holiday. Captain John Hindmarsh proclaimed South Australia as a British Province in December, 1836. Proclamation day is celebrated to commemorate this event.
