Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company is the merger of two companies that are Aioi Insurance Co., Ltd and Nissay Dowa General Co., Ltd. These both were the members of MS & AD Insurance Company and were merged later.

Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company is well known in Asia rather than Europe and has started its operations first in Asian countries only. This company has started its journey in the following way:

• In the year 1623, a former Buddhist priest named Sumitomo Masatomo, has opened a book store and later moved into Copper Refining Industry.
• Marketing in Japan has started by Mitsui Takatoshi with the foundation of Kimono shop in the year of 1673.
• Sukesaburo Hirose has founded Nissay Life Assurance Co., Inc., in the month of July 1889 and this is first insurer of Japan who offered dividends to the policy holders.
• Dai-Ichi is one of oldest Japanese Insurance companies that was founded in the year 1902 on September 15th.
• In the year of 1944, in Japan Dowa Fire and Marine Insurance Company Ltd has founded.
• Chiyoda Corporation an engineering company with specialized industrial facilities has been started in the year of 1948.
• In 2001, Chiyoda along with Dai Tokyo merged to form the organization Aioi. In the same year, Merger of Dowa Fire & Marine together with Nissay General Insurance formed and named as Nissay Dowa Insurance Company.
• In Europe, Aioi Motar and General Insurance Company has been founded in the year 2004 at UK.
• Aioi Insurance along with Nissay Dowa General Insurance and Sumitomo Insurance Group had made a fundamental agreement to make integrated business.
• In the year of 2010, Aioi insurance along with Nissay Dowa has merged together to form Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Company.
