Northern Territory (NT), one of Australia’s states observes 11 public holidays. Here is the compilation of these holidays.
- New Year’s Day: Observed annually on 1st January although celebrations to welcome the New Year begin as early as 31st December.
- Australia Day: It is observed on 26th January of every year in remembrance of the arrival of the First Fleet in Australia from England to establish a colony. In case this day falls on Saturday; like this year, a substitute holiday is declared on Monday. Meaning this day was observed on Monday 28th January
- Good Friday: It is observed on the 29th of March every year to commemorate Jesus’ crucifixion.
- Easter Saturday: This is a day after Good Friday that Christians are still in the celebration mood of commemorating the death of Jesus.
- Easter Monday: A national holiday that is observed on the first day of April after Easter Sunday.
- Anzac Day: It is a national public holiday that is observed on the 25th of April; on an annual basis to commemorate and celebrate those men and women who have stood to fight for Australia. Those who lose their lives in other national conflicts are remembered on this day too.
- May Day: It is a national public holiday that is observed on the 6th may of every year to celebrate the prosperity and other achievements realized by the Northern Territory workers.
- Queen’s Birthday: It is a national holiday that is observed annually on the second month of June to celebrate the British’s monarch’s birthdays. One of the outstanding features of this holiday is that shopping is a restricted errand on this day.
- Picnic Day: This year, this day was observed on 5th of August. It is usually set apart in order to give workers in Northern Territory time to rest and have fun with their families.
- Christmas: This is a fabulous national holiday that Northern Territory residents commemorate the birth of Jesus. It is observed on the 25th of December. It is a fun day for most families but shopping is restricted during this holiday.
- Boxing Day: This day is observed on 26th December; a day after Christmas. It is a charity day.
