Helpmann Awards are the Australian awards in recognition of artistic achievements, music and its categories. These are yearly based awards. Apart from Helpmann awards this award program also includes JC Williamson Award which is presented in Australian live performance industry, basing on outstanding contribution.

History

Helpmann awards are presented in honour of Sir Robert Helpmann by Live Performance Australia (LPA). Sir Robert Helpmann was famous Australian actor, Choreographer, dancer and theatre director. These awards have been started from 2001 to memorialize achievements of Robert Helpmann.

Objective

Main and foremost objective of these Helpmann awards is to promote Australian Live Performance either nationally or internationally by following:
  • It helps to recognize artistic achievements as well as excellence.
  • It can be certified that these awards are administered as well as produced with integrity.
  • It confirms that these awards program is celebrated by industry as well as Australian Community.
  • These are the most prestigious awards in the industry which will be highlighted in each and every season.

Committee That Organizes

Live Performance Australia Executive Council has appointed a committee known as Helpmann Awards Administration Committee (HAAC), which will administer Helpmann Awards. HAAC responsibility is to check that these awards are being run on Helpmann Awards rules. It is considered to be responsible for the following:
  • Entry eligibility
  • The General Administration of the Awards
  • Sponsorship
  • Marketing
  • Appointment of Executive Producer

Eligibility

An entrant or entry can be eligible for Helpmann awards only if it satisfies following eligibility criteria:
  • It is required that production must give its first performance in Australia before eligibility period.
  • It has to be produced by member of Live Performance Australia.
  • Incase if it is produced in a professional manner by a non-member of Live Performance Australia then the industry service fee must be transferred to the LPA member or LPA member venue directly.
  • It is required to be within the artistic or industry award categories.
  • If the entry is for Best Regional Touring Production then it is required to complete its tour to Australia during eligibility period.

It is mandatory for entrants to select the category that suits best to their entry for Helpmann awards. Though Best Special Event category is presented here but still it does not take any entries. �Following are the Helpmann award categories:
