ARIA Music Awards

ARIA or Australian Recording Industry Association awards are given yearly for contributions in the music Industry. The award celebrates the Australian music industry, which is put on by ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association). The event is annually held since the year 1987. It encompasses general and genre specific awards and various categories of popular awards. There are other categories like Artisan Awards and Fine Arts Awards, both held separately since 2004. There is a Lifetime Achievement Award as well as the ARIA Hall of Fame Award,  both held from 2005 to 2010 separately, but were not returned to the general category and ceremony in the year 2011. Public voted awards were introduced for the first time in 2010.

History

The Australian Recording Industry Association was formed by 6 leading record companies operating in Australia at that time – Festival Records, EMI, CBS, RCA, Polygram and WEA, which replaced the Australian Record Manufacturers established in 1956. Later, small record companies that represent independent label and acts, having more than 100 members, were included.
